Cultural Heritage Studies and Plans

Client: Baulkham Hills Council, Wollongong City Council and Central Darling Shire

Location/s: Baulkham Hills, Wollongong, Central Darling Shire (NSW)

With consultant, Mary Dallas, conducted heritage study, produced cultural inventory, and identified potential development projects that would affect Aboriginal cultural places and developed planning and management mechanism in liaison with local land council/s.

Protection of Indigenous Cultural Places Training Program

Client: Australian Cultural Development Office, (AIATSIS, Australian Nature Conservation Agency and Australian Heritage Commission)

Location/s: Canarvon Gorge, Mission Beach (Qld)

Assisted in this project, developing a questionnaire into training needs, assisting with the development of the training program, and the delivery of two two-week residential training programs for practitioners and community members. This training program was later run (usually biannually) as part of the James Cook University Cultural Resources Masters Degree program.

Cape York Regional Land Management Planning

Client: Queensland Dept of Environment & Heritage and Ang-Gnarra Aboriginal Corporation

Location/s: Laura, Hopevale, Brisbane (Qld)

Development of a management strategy for Aboriginal lands and art sites, negotiated over several months with community rangers and at community meetings. Later presented as a case study in land management issues and community planning for training regional staff of the Department of Family Services and Aboriginal and Islander Affairs, Qld.
